This 0-4-0WT locomotive was built by Stahlbahnwerke Freudenstein of Tempelhof, Berlin as their builder's no.217 of 1905.  It operated at the Golden Ridge gold mine at Kalgoorlie, together with sister Freudenstein b/n 175 of 1904.  Both locomotives were acquired by the Western Machinery Company, Kalgoorlie when the Golden Ridge mine fell into financial difficulties.

Freudenstein B/N.217 was acquired by a private owner and moved to the Perth area during the 1980's.  Here it was regauged from 1 8" to 2" gauge during its restoration to operation, and received the name "Golden Ridge" at its return to service.  It ran from 1989 at the Bennett Brook Railway.

"Golden Ridge" was sold to private owner in NSW in 1993.  It is now operated on his 2km private railway on a rural property near Canberra, which is known as the Bowylie Light Railway.

The Bennett Brook Railway "Former Motive Power" page has further details and photographs of this interesting locomotive.
